What is UTP-IR?
An institutional repository is the online locus for collecting, preserving, and disseminating - in digital form - the intellectual output of an institution, particularly a research institution. For a university, this would include materials such as research journal articles, before (preprints) and after (post prints) undergoing peer review, and digital versions of thesis and dissertations, but it might also include other digital assets generated by normal academic life, such as administrative documents, course notes, or learning objects.

Why Institutional Repository (IR)?
The benefit of IR:
a) To provide open access to institutional research output by self-archiving it.
b) To create global visiblity for an isntitution's scholarly research.
c) To collect content in a single location.
d) To store and preserve other institutional digital assets. -
What are inside our IR?
Content Type:
a) Research Journal Articles (pre prints, post prints, under peer review).
b) Publication (books, Book Chapters, Lecture Notes, Patern). Content Deposit:
All articles, books, book chapters and lecture notes are deposit into UTP IR by the document owner. Access:
Only UTP Staff can access the full text in UTP IR. Other users can only view the metadata with abstract. User Registration:
All UTP Staff are require to make a request for users registration to ITMS ServiceDesk to activate their account. External user access:
external user can only view metadata. They require to get ILL service from their library to get the full text (subject to policy defined by the document owner) -
Copyright Issues?
UTP is holding the copyright for all thesis, dissertation and final year report deposited to IRC, as stated in the thesis and dissertation declaration. The author defined and stated the confidentiality level of thesis in the declaration Author also defined the embargo of thesis and dissertation in the declaration.
Access Policy::
External user can only view the metadata of records. The restricted documents can only viewed by the registered users. System will prompt for login to open the full text. -
How to get connected?
To access the collection kindly register yourself at http://eprints.utp.edu.my/registration.html (UTP ACADEMIC STAFF - UTP LECTURERS ONLY) You will get the username and password within 3 working days by email once the account has been activated by admin.
